What It Does
SVG2AE imports SVG vector files directly into After Effects compositions as shape layers. Select your timeline, drag SVG files into the extension panel, and they appear as editable shapes. The plugin handles single or multiple files at once, making it faster to bring vector assets from Illustrator or other design tools into your motion work.
Key Features
Drag-and-drop import. Open the extension panel (Window > Extensions > SVG2AE), select your timeline, and drop one or more SVG files into the panel. Each file becomes a shape layer in your comp.
Batch processing. Import multiple SVG files at once rather than bringing them in one at a time through the standard file import dialog.
Custom temp file location. By default, the plugin writes temporary files to your Documents folder. If that location is locked, you can set a custom path through the settings menu.
Limitations
The plugin only supports shape graphics with closed paths. Multiple-page SVGs, gradients, and patterns are not supported. Text in SVG files must be converted to paths before import (in Illustrator, select text and go to Object > Expand). Layer names from the original SVG files are not preserved in After Effects.
Who It’s For
Motion designers working with vector assets from Illustrator or web design tools. Particularly useful if you regularly import SVG icons, logos, or illustrations into After Effects and want to skip the standard import workflow. Requires After Effects CC 2018 or later, and you need to enable “Allow Scripts to Write Files and Access Network” in preferences.
Pricing
SVG2AE uses a pay-what-you-want model with a suggested price of $29.99. Individual users can pay any amount they choose. Businesses and teams must pay the suggested price to receive a valid license.
