What It Does
2DFbend is a script for After Effects that slices any 2D layer into segments and rearranges them into curved, circular, or folded structures. Select a layer, set the number of segments, click Apply, and the script builds a fully controllable rig around your layer. No third-party plugins required, no manual pre-composing.
The core use case is bending flat layers into arcs or full circles, but the system is flexible enough to build folded surfaces, curved UI panels, and 360° wrapping structures.
Key Features
Automatic slicing and rigging. After you apply the script, it cuts your layer into the defined number of segments and generates a controller setup you can adjust directly in the effects panel.
Independent bend controllers. Apply multiple bends to the same layer and control each one separately. Stack and duplicate controllers to build complex folded or layered structures.
Offset and curvature controls. Slide the curvature position along the layer, adjust start and end segments, and dial in advanced curvature precision for tight creative control.
Front and back face opacity. When wrapping layers into circular or near-closed shapes, you can independently control the opacity of the front and back faces.
Fine edge control. Mask expansion adjustments let you clean up edges between segments, removing visible seams in the final output.
Flexible animation system. All controls are keyframable, making it practical for title sequences that bend into place, curved UI reveals, or transitional shapes.
A fully editable example project is included so you can reverse-engineer the setup before building your own.
Who It’s For
Motion designers who regularly work with circular compositions, text wrapped around shapes, folded card effects, or curved interface mockups will get the most out of this. It is also useful for anyone who has tried to fake layer bending with puppet pins or expressions and found the results difficult to control cleanly.
