What It Does
YY_MagicKey keys out premultiplied stock elements without the parameter overload of traditional keyers. It targets footage that already has a black or colored background, common with action stock like explosions, blood hits, muzzle flares, and smoke. You pick a background color, adjust a couple sliders, and get a clean extraction ready to composite.
Key Features
Background Color sets the color to remove. Most premultiplied stock comes on black, but if your element has a different backdrop, you can key that instead.
Crush Transparent and Crush Opaque control how aggressive the key is. Crush Transparent expands the transparent areas, useful when you need to fully remove dim halo pixels. Crush Opaque does the opposite, bringing back detail in semi-transparent regions.
Despill Amount and Despill Size handle edge color contamination. If your element picks up a tint from its background, despill removes it. The Size parameter controls whether despill applies just to edges (0) or across the whole image (1).
View modes let you inspect your work: see the raw source, the alpha matte, the despill mask, or the final composited output.
Who It’s For
Useful for editors working with ActionVFX, Detonation Films, or any premultiplied stock library. If you regularly drop explosions or practical effects into your comps, this simplifies the cleanup. It won’t replace a full chroma keyer for greenscreen work, but for pre-keyed elements it’s faster than stacking multiple effect passes.
