What It Does

Wandeln is an animated typeface for After Effects with an art deco aesthetic. Designed by Florian Bartl, it draws inspiration from vintage French beverage labels and features high-contrast letterforms with geometric shapes. The animation unfolds in two distinct phases: rectangular elements appear first (with a choice between smooth or flickering reveal), followed by flowing curves. This split creates a particular rhythm that sets it apart from single-motion animated type.

The typeface works as both animated and static formats, letting you choose how much motion to include in a project.

Key Features

Two-part animation. Rectangular shapes reveal first, then curves flow in. You control whether the first phase flickers or animates smoothly.

Three-color customization. Adjust color values to match your project’s palette.

JSX format support. Lightweight format integrates with Font Manager for typing out text rather than dragging individual characters. Also includes a traditional AEP file with all animated characters organized.

Character set. Full uppercase Latin alphabet with accented characters, numerals 0-9, and common punctuation. No lowercase.

Workflow integration. Works with Font Manager and Animography Controller to handle spacing, alignment, tracking, and time offset.

Who It’s For

Motion designers working on titles, branding, or projects where sophisticated type animation matters. Particularly useful for vintage-inspired work, luxury brands, or retro motion graphics. The two-stage animation gives you a visual hook that standard reveal styles don’t offer.

The static version suits situations where you want the art deco look without animation.

Pricing

Wandeln uses pay-what-you-want pricing. The suggested prices are $35 for the animated version and $16 for the static typeface, but you set the amount you pay. A free seven-day trial covers characters A, B, and C (requires Font Manager, which also offers a trial).

Buying four or more Animography typefaces triggers a 25% discount across the bundle.
