What It Does
Splash generates procedurally animated liquid particles that follow moving layers in After Effects. Select a layer, pick a preset, and click the Splash button to create liquid trails, blobs, smoke, or fire effects. The tool uses expression-based procedural generation with seeded randomness, so you can cycle through infinite variations while keeping full control over the look.
Key Features
Generator controls. Adjust when and how particles are born. Set speed thresholds to gate particle generation based on layer velocity, control particle quantity per second, and define initial direction and velocity. Time offset lets you delay or advance particle emission relative to the layer’s movement.
Particle properties. Control lifespan to make particles linger or disappear quickly. Adjust size and size deviation for variety. Set birth and death colors independently. All particle properties support randomness parameters so no two splashes look identical.
Physics simulation. Add gravity with adjustable angle and strength. Introduce resistance to slow particles down over time. Combine multiple physics properties to create realistic or stylized motion.
Dynamic blobs. Generate a separate liquid blob layer with independent size, stretch, and color controls. Works alongside splash particles or on its own.
Built-in presets. Includes ready-made setups for flicky liquid, thin trails, bubbles, write-on effects, fire, and smoke. Save your own custom presets.
Seeded randomness. Each splash uses a seed value for procedural generation. Change the seed to get a completely different result while keeping all other settings the same. Useful for art direction or creating matched variations.
Who It’s For
Motion designers working on cartoon or stylized animation will find this useful for character work, text reveals, and transition effects. It’s also practical for anyone needing quick liquid trails without hand-animating particles or setting up complex particle systems from scratch.
Pricing
Splash costs $39.99 for a single-user license. A trial version is available to test compatibility and features before purchase.
