What It Does

Review Importer converts client feedback from video review platforms into After Effects text layers and markers. Instead of switching between After Effects and Kollaborate, Vimeo, Frame.io, or Screenlight to read comments, you see the feedback directly on your timeline.

The plugin imports CSV files exported from these platforms and creates a text layer with markers matching each comment’s timecode. Toggle the layer on to see feedback overlaid on your comp, or use the markers to jump between notes.

Key Features

Platform support. Works with Kollaborate.tv, Vimeo, Frame.io, and Screenlight.tv. Each platform exports reviews as CSV, which Review Importer parses and converts to After Effects markers.

Timecode accuracy. Handles timecode formats including dropframe correction. Comments appear at the exact frame referenced in the review.

Comment merging. Multiple notes at the same timecode get combined automatically unless you disable merging during export (Kollaborate only).

Marker colors. Choose a label color when importing to visually distinguish review rounds or clients.

Text layer overlay. Creates a single text layer containing all comments. Keep it visible while working or hide it when rendering.

Who It’s For

Useful for editors and animators who receive feedback through online review platforms. If you’re implementing client notes from Kollaborate, Vimeo, Frame.io, or Screenlight, this saves time over copying comments manually or printing PDFs.

Particularly helpful when juggling multiple review rounds, where color-coded markers help track which feedback came from which pass.

How It Works

Export reviews as CSV from your platform (process varies slightly per service, but all support CSV download). Run the script in After Effects, select the CSV file, pick a marker color, and click Import. A text layer appears with markers at each comment timecode.

The script handles formatting quirks like linebreaks in comments, quotes in Kollaborate exports, and German diaeresis characters in label colors. Recent updates fixed CSV parsing issues after Kollaborate and Vimeo changed their export formats.
