What It Does

Rescue Matte Filler recovers mattes from green screen footage that would otherwise be unusable. When you’re stuck with badly lit setups, reflections, or pre-keyed clips with missing color information, this plugin fills edge gaps and restores transparency issues that standard keying tools can’t handle. It’s designed for situations where re-shooting isn’t an option.

Note: This plugin has been discontinued and is no longer available for purchase.

Key Features

Smart filling algorithm. Detects and fills missing edges while preserving detail through automatic anti-aliasing. You control the maximum gap size to close, preventing it from affecting areas you want to keep.

Color recovery. Pulls color from the original footage in your composition, or handles pre-keyed clips where that information is gone. You can set a fallback color when automatic recovery isn’t possible.

Selective hole filling. The “Only fill holes smaller than” control targets specific problem areas by pixel dimensions, leaving larger intentional gaps alone. The alpha threshold setting (default 98%) defines what counts as solid, useful when working with semi-transparent elements like car windows.

Shrink-grow. Expands or contracts filled areas after processing. Enter -5 to shrink by 5 pixels, +5 to grow outward, giving you precise control over how the fix integrates with your original matte.

Decontaminate. Adjusts the overall tint of filled areas, typically set between 50% grey and your screen color to match the rest of the image.

Process modes. View the final composite, just the filled areas in isolation, or the alpha channel as white, making it easy to verify what the plugin is doing.

Who It’s For

Useful for compositors dealing with stock footage, client-supplied green screen shots, or any keying work where the source material has problems you can’t control. The plugin works in both After Effects and Premiere Pro, and handles 4K footage.

Pricing

Rescue Matte Filler was sold for $16 (reduced from $20) as a one-time purchase. Since it’s discontinued, you can’t buy it anymore. If you need similar functionality, look at other keying and matte cleanup tools still available from aescripts.
