What It Does

QuickDraw automates the keyframe animation process for Paint Effect strokes in After Effects. When you trace text or line drawings using the Paint Effect, each stroke has an End property that can be animated from 0% to 100% to create a write-on reveal. Instead of manually setting these keyframes for every stroke, QuickDraw handles the timing automatically.

Key Features

Equal duration and frequency. Set all stroke animations to the same length with one click, creating consistent timing across your entire composition.

Measured timing. Place keyframes between your in and out points with spacing proportional to each stroke’s actual length. Longer strokes get more time, shorter ones animate faster. The plugin offers two measurement methods: vertex counting (faster) or segment sum calculation (more accurate). Stroke lengths are cached in the stroke name to avoid recalculation.

Sequencing and staggering. Reorder existing keyframes with overlap or padding options. Useful after tweaking preset keyframes to create cascading animation effects.

Selective animation. Select specific strokes in the Timeline or Layer Viewer and animate only those. Filter by brush or eraser type based on stroke names.

Track matte creation. Generate track mattes two ways: duplicate the layer or build the matte within the effects stack. Choose the matte color for better visibility.

Timeline control. Set keyframes from the playhead position instead of the layer in point. All QuickDraw settings save to your After Effects preferences.

Who It’s For

Useful for anyone creating handwritten text animations, traced line drawings, or illustrated reveal effects. If you work with a Wacom tablet or draw with a mouse, QuickDraw handles the tedious keyframe setup so you can focus on the drawing itself.
