What It Does
Pubes generates splines from Bezier shapes in After Effects. You can create unlimited splines either scattered randomly inside a polygon or distributed along its edge. The plugin reads back spline data, letting you regenerate and adjust parameters at any time without losing your work.
It only works with Bezier shapes (rectangles, ellipses, and stars must be converted first). Because of the math involved, it generates splines based on the shape’s current frame position, not animated paths.
Key Features
Polygon and Edge modes. Polygon mode scatters splines randomly inside the shape area. Edge mode offers four distribution options: even spacing, random placement, semi-random, or angle projection.
Regeneration system. You can regenerate spline distribution, rotation, color, width, and length at any point. The plugin stores the original parameters, so you can tweak and iterate without starting over.
Add Target. Creates a null layer and applies rotation expressions to every spline, making them all point toward the target. Useful for radial designs or focus effects.
Random Rotation and Reset Rotation. Apply random rotation values to each spline individually, or reset them back to the default rotation from generation.
Reverse Direction. Inverts the direction of each spline path.
Wiggle Effector. Adds or removes a Wiggle Paths shape effector with an effect controller for adjusting parameters.
Gradient Stroke Effector. Adds a Black to White gradient stroke to each spline set to Multiply blend mode. Alt+click reverses the gradient and switches to Screen mode.
Who It’s For
This plugin is for motion designers working with procedural or semi-random organic textures, hair, grass, or decorative line work. If you need to fill shapes with splines and want control over distribution and appearance, this handles it.
Pricing
Pubes uses pay-what-you-want pricing with a suggested minimum of $15. Individual users can pay any amount. Businesses and teams are expected to pay the suggested price for a valid license.
