What It Does

Pixy Halftone converts footage and graphics into pixelated halftone patterns with working alpha channels. The plugin generates transparency based on luminosity values, so you can stack multiple halftone layers to isolate highlights, shadows, or midtones separately.

Key Features

Alpha-based compositing. The plugin creates alpha channels from your source luminosity. Apply one instance to the highlights, another to the shadows, and composite them cleanly without manual masking.

Six shape patterns. Choose from square, circle, triangle, diamond, maze, or random chaos shapes. Each shape can be sized, colored, and spaced independently.

Original color mode. Instead of applying a single color to all shapes, use the source layer’s original colors for retro game or comic book styles.

Simple controls. Adjust shape size, spacing, color, opacity contrast, and luminosity threshold. Invert the shade targeting to halftone shadows instead of highlights or focus on midtones.

Who It’s For

Useful for motion designers creating vintage video game aesthetics, comic book effects, or retro print styles. Works on text layers, footage, shape layers, or any After Effects source with luminosity variation.

Pricing

Pixy Halftone uses pay-what-you-want pricing. Individual users can pay any amount. The suggested minimum is $19.99. Teams and businesses must pay the suggested price for a valid license. Compatible with After Effects CC 2014 through 2026 on both Intel and Apple Silicon systems.
