What It Does

OverAct adds overshoot and bounce expressions to After Effects properties, but replaces the typical frequency/decay/gravity math with controls that map to how animators actually think. You set how many overshoots or bounces you want and how many frames they should last. The physics bending happens from there.

Key Features

Overshoot and Bounce count. Specify the exact number of overshoots or bounces rather than dialing in a decay value and guessing the result.

Duration in frames. Set the total frame length of the animation directly, so timing matches your cut without trial and error.

Amplitude and Dampen. Amplitude adjusts the overall strength. Dampen controls how trailing cycles compare to the first one, letting you front-load the energy or spread it evenly.

Time Dilation. Stretches or compresses later cycles relative to the first, so you can get a long initial overshoot that trails off quickly.

Peak Easing and Peak Timing. Adds easing into and out of the extreme positions. For bounces, ease in and ease out are adjustable separately. Peak Timing shifts when those extreme positions occur within each cycle.

Peak Dampen. Gradually removes Peak Easing and Peak Timing from later cycles, keeping the animation feeling natural as it settles.

Final Settle / Final Bounce. Extends the final settle in overshoots or reduces the height of the last bounce, useful when you have high amplitude and need a clean end.

Enable toggle. Apply or skip the expressions on a per-keyframe basis, so not every keyframe on a property has to receive the same treatment.

Who It’s For

Motion designers who spend time hand-tweaking overshoot expressions will find OverAct worth the price immediately. It’s particularly useful for character animation, UI motion, and kinetic typography where you want bouncy or springy movement that feels deliberate rather than physically accurate. Comes with a free trial and supports After Effects 2020 through 2026.
