What It Does

Matrix takes a single layer and divides it into a grid of pieces that animate in or out along the Z-axis. You define the fragment size, gap spacing, target depth, rotation values, and whether pieces animate sequentially or in random order. The script handles all the technical work: precomposing the source layer, generating covering solids, duplicating and parenting layers, setting up track mattes, and keyframing the animation.

Key Features

Fragment control. Set custom X and Y dimensions for grid pieces, with optional pixel gaps between fragments. Smaller pieces create finer detail but take longer to build.

Animation order. Choose directional (pieces animate row by row or column by column with customizable delays) or random (each piece starts at a random time within a defined range).

Transition type. Animate in (pieces travel from a specified Z depth to the layer’s original position) or out (pieces move from the original position to depth).

3D transforms. Define target Z position and XYZ rotation values for the start or end state of each fragment.

Timing options. Set start frame, transition length, and (for random mode) minimum transition duration and start variation range.

Motion enhancements. Optional fade, eased keyframes, and motion blur for smoother results.

Editable builds. After building a matrix, reopen the settings and rebuild with new parameters without starting over.

The script generates a dockable panel interface. Two locked, shy layers at the bottom store build parameters (don’t edit these). A non-shy duplicate at the top provides quick access to the original precomp.

Who It’s For

Useful for pixelated reveals, data visualization breakups, glitch transitions, or any effect that requires splitting a layer into synchronized or randomized grid animations. Works well for title cards, logo treatments, and abstract motion graphics.

Pricing

Matrix uses a pay-what-you-want model with a suggested price of $14.99. A free trial is available for testing. Quantity discounts apply: 10% off for 2 licenses, 15% off for 5, and 20% off for 10.
