What It Does
Mask Transformer converts standard After Effects masks into fully transformable objects with numeric input controls. Instead of dragging mask points manually, you get access to position, scale, and rotation values you can keyframe, link to expressions, or animate along motion paths. The plugin creates temporary helper layers that mirror your masks, letting you edit transformations visually before applying them back to the original mask.
Key Features
Helper layer workflow. Select a mask and generate a helper layer that represents it as a transformable object. Edit the helper’s position, rotation, or scale using After Effects’ standard transform controls, then apply those changes back to the mask geometry. The helper layer matches the mask’s size and can be recalled later if you need to make adjustments.
Expression-driven masks. Since transformations are stored as standard After Effects properties on the helper layer, you can drive mask changes with expressions, link them to other layer properties, or use motion paths. This makes procedural mask animation significantly more practical.
Multi-mask support. Select and transform multiple masks simultaneously. The plugin handles duplicates and maintains proper layer hierarchy when generating helpers.
Non-destructive editing. Remove helper layers without applying changes, or reset masks to their original state. You can recall helpers for previously transformed masks to continue editing later.
Who It’s For
Useful for motion designers working with animated masks in title sequences, lower thirds, or shape-based transitions. Also relevant for compositors who need precise numeric control over mask transformations instead of manual point adjustments. Works on both 2D and 3D layers, with proper handling of parented layers and tangent preservation.
