What It Does
Malcolm in the Center calculates the exact midpoint between two 3D coordinates and positions a layer at that location. Select two reference layers, or create temporary nulls to mark your points. The script does the spatial math and centers your target object.
Key Features
The workflow is four steps. First, identify your two reference points by selecting existing layers or using the Create tempNull button to generate positioning guides. Second, press Get Data to capture the 3D coordinates. Third, select the layer you want to center (or let the script create a null). Fourth, press Apply Data to position it.
No expressions, no parent chains, just direct position values. Works with any layer type that can exist in 3D space.
Who It’s For
Useful for 3D layout work where you need precise midpoints, like centering a camera between two tracked points, positioning lights equidistant from objects, or building symmetrical 3D compositions. The temp null feature helps when working with abstract spatial relationships rather than existing layers.
Compatible with After Effects CC back through CS3.
