What It Does

Isotype creates text with a faux 3D isometric look and built-in animations. The typeface uses two separate 0–100% sliders to control the in and out animations independently. You can keyframe these sliders, adjust their curves, or drive them with expressions to control speed and easing. Each character is built from scalable shape layers, not pre-rendered footage, so you can modify colors and properties directly.

Originally designed and animated by Ryan Locke, the typeface is no longer available for purchase but was previously offered as a pay-what-you-want download.

Key Features

Separate in/out controls. Two sliders (0–100%) give you independent control over the in and out animations. Keyframe them, apply custom curves, or use expressions for precise timing.

Isometric 3D style. The typeface renders letters in a faux 3D isometric view, useful for title animations or graphic overlays that need a dimensional look without actual 3D rendering.

Color customization. Three color options per character, plus a checkbox to hide the cube state if you want a simpler appearance.

Font Manager and Controller support. Works with Font Manager (sold separately) for typing, tracking, line spacing, alignment, and time offset controls. Also compatible with the free Animography Controller for drag-and-drop character placement.

JSX format. Includes a lightweight JSX version built with compCode. Requires Font Manager to use, which unlocks the full character set. The trial version shows only A, B, and C.

Compatible with CS6 through 2024. Expressions were updated in v1.6 (February 2019) for compatibility with the JavaScript expressions engine in CC 2019.

Who It’s For

Motion designers working on title sequences, social media graphics, or anything that needs a bold, geometric type treatment with built-in animation. The independent in/out controls make it useful for kinetic typography projects where precise timing matters.

Pricing

No longer available for purchase. It was previously offered as pay-what-you-want (name your own price). A free trial version of the JSX format is available, limited to three characters (A, B, C) and requiring Font Manager, which also has a free trial.
