What It Does

Inout animates any After Effects property in and out based on layer timing. Instead of setting keyframes, you set transitions relative to the layer’s inPoint and outPoint. Move the layer in the timeline, change its duration, and the animations adjust automatically. Position, scale, rotation, opacity, any animated property works.

The plugin offers two animation modes: Slider Mode controls duration and offset via effect sliders, making it ideal for templates with essential properties. Marker Mode uses layer markers to define transition timing, which keeps your timeline visually clear when juggling multiple properties.

Key Features

Marker Mode. Apply IN and OUT markers to control each property’s transition timing individually. Hold Shift to create global markers for the entire layer. If you enable the Custom Marker option, you manually extend marker duration for finer control.

Per-Property vs. Master Effect. Apply individual effects to each property for independent control of animation and interpolation. Or use a Master Effect that centralizes animation settings while still allowing per-property value adjustments. The Master Effect simplifies workflows when many properties share similar timing.

Interpolation Presets. Choose from Ease, Back, Elastic, or Bounce for In and Out separately, then fine-tune inside the effect panel. The Values panel offers quick presets for common changes like position shifts, scale adjustments, or rotation increments (customizable in Settings).

Keyframe Import. Select two keyframes (In or Out) or four (both), and Inout reads the values, duration, and timing automatically. It ignores keyframe interpolation but captures the data, saving setup time.

Controller Layer Option. Instead of applying effects directly to your active layer, create a dedicated controller layer. All effects live there, which centralizes management when working with complex templates. A popup prompts you to name the effect (keep it short; the “IO |” prefix is used as a tag for adjustments).

Who It’s For

Useful for motion designers building templates or editors handling repetitive transitions. If you frequently animate text layers, shapes, or adjustment layers in a consistent style, Inout removes the manual keyframing step. It’s also practical for anyone who needs to adjust timing after initial animation, since changes to layer duration or position propagate automatically.

Pricing

Inout uses a pay-what-you-want model. The regular price is listed at $24.90. A 10-day free trial is available with two limitations: you can only select 2 properties at once and process one layer at a time.
