What It Does
InkBloom is a plugin effect from grape design that generates procedural watercolor ink simulations inside After Effects. It handles the physics of ink spreading, bleeding, and blending, so you don’t have to hand-animate or composite real footage. The result is fluid, organic ink behavior that can be fully keyframed and controlled through a parameter panel.
It works well as a background generator, a transition element, or a decorative layer in motion graphics projects where you want a painterly or organic aesthetic.
Key Features
Up to 8 ink colors. Each color has independent position, amount, and strength controls, giving you fine-grained control over where ink originates and how aggressively it spreads.
Directional force. A wind-like force parameter lets you push the ink flow in a specific direction, useful for creating sweeping or directional transitions rather than radially symmetrical blooms.
Three color blending modes. Controls how inks interact when they meet, ranging from sharp boundaries to soft organic mixing. A separate hardness parameter adjusts the degree of blending between adjacent colors.
Bleed and diffusion controls. Bleed strength, density, diffusion variation, and random seed can all be adjusted independently. There’s also a delay parameter that controls how quickly ink starts to spread, useful for staggered or timed reveals.
Texture options. Three texture types are available, including a paper texture, with density and seed controls for variation. These add surface character to the ink without needing an external texture layer.
Fully keyframeable. Every parameter, including time control, flow speed, and bleed strength, is keyframeable, so you can animate the simulation progressing over time or tie it to specific moments in a sequence.
Who It’s For
Motion designers working on organic, editorial, or illustrative styles will get the most out of InkBloom. It’s particularly suited for background animations, title card reveals, and scene transitions where a hand-crafted or painterly look is the goal. Less useful for photorealistic compositing work.
Pricing
InkBloom is a one-time purchase at $28.00 (currently on sale, regular price $37.40). A free trial is available on the aescripts product page. Compatible with After Effects 2023 through 2026.
