What It Does
Immigration handles batch importing and replacing footage in After Effects, particularly for file sequences and nested folder structures. It scans folders faster than macOS Finder or Windows Explorer (a folder with 30,000 files that takes 5+ minutes to open in the OS loads in Immigration in 12 seconds). File sequences display as single line items instead of thousands of individual frames, making large projects manageable.
Key Features
Batch import and replace. Select multiple files or sequences and import them all at once, or replace existing footage items in your project. Maintains folder hierarchies automatically, recreating the structure from your file system inside the After Effects project.
Auto-Match Replace algorithm. When replacing footage, Immigration matches files with similar names and color-codes the match confidence. Useful when your updated files have version numbers or date stamps appended.
Sequence handling. Detects image sequences and treats them as single items. You can assign frame rates to all imported sequences at once, or specify a subrange to import for a single sequence.
Proxy mode. Add or replace proxies for footage items. Sequences used as proxies conform to the frame rate set in the panel.
Filtering. Filter by file extension, text (including regular expressions), or folder name. Exclude or include specific folders (like an “archives” folder), or filter files by age (useful for finding recent renders).
Manual or automatic matching. Choose Auto-Match for intelligent name-based matching, or Manual Match (Top-to-Bottom) if you prefer to control the order.
Who It’s For
Useful for projects involving multi-pass renders, large image sequences, or deeply nested folder structures. If you regularly wait for the OS to list thousands of files, or spend time manually replacing footage items, Immigration saves time.
