What It Does

Extendo brings professional edge extension to After Effects. When you rotoscope or key footage, motion-blurred areas often have discolored pixels at the edges. Extendo erodes those bad edges and replaces them with colors sampled from the clean inner core of your footage.

Edge extension is standard practice in Nuke, Flame, and Fusion. This plugin makes that technique available in After Effects for the first time.

Key Features

GPU acceleration. Turn on Mercury GPU in Project Settings and watch it run. In Software mode, you still get a speed boost with high Erosion values.

Animated geometry support. Works with native After Effects 3D layers and handles movement in the frame.

Knockout Mode. Isolates just the extended portion. Useful when you need to add grain or other effects only to the new edges, matching them to your original footage.

Mask compatibility. Use masks to define exactly where edge extension happens.

Version 1.2.0 fixed a major memory leak in AE 2026 and added the Knockout Mode feature. Earlier updates delivered the GPU acceleration and performance improvements for high Erosion values.

Who It’s For

VFX compositors working with greenscreen or rotoscoped footage. If you’ve ever had to clean up edge fringing or extend layer boundaries to avoid gaps in comps, this solves that problem directly.
