What It Does

Duplicate & Rename streamlines the process of creating multiple layer copies in After Effects. Instead of manually duplicating, renaming, and repositioning each layer, this tool handles all three operations through a single panel interface. You set search and replacement terms for batch renaming, choose position offsets along X, Y, or Z axes, flip layers horizontally or vertically, and assign label colors, all before hitting apply.

Key Features

Search and replace renaming. Define a search term and replacement term to automatically rename duplicated layers in bulk. Useful when creating variations like “Title_01,” “Title_02,” and so on.

Position offsets with parent null. Offset duplicated layers along the X, Y, or Z axis. The script can attach a parent null to keyframed layers so position changes don’t affect existing animation.

Layer flipping. Flip duplicated layers horizontally or vertically directly within the duplication process. No need for separate transform adjustments.

Label color assignment. Assign label colors to duplicated layers for easier visual organization in the timeline.

Auto-close option. Set the panel to automatically close after executing the operation, reducing click overhead in repetitive tasks.

Who It’s For

Motion designers working with repeated elements, like title cards, lower thirds, or iconography. Also helpful for anyone building out template structures where consistent layer naming and spacing matter. Works with After Effects CC 2020 and above.
