Despill Maestro removes unwanted color spill from green or blue screen footage. When you key a subject against a colored backdrop, reflected light bounces onto skin, hair, and clothing. This plugin suppresses that spill while keeping protected areas intact.
The tool generates alpha channels directly from the spill removal, letting you isolate affected areas for targeted correction. It runs on the GPU and supports 8/16/32-bit workflows in both After Effects and Premiere Pro.
Key Features
10 specialized algorithms. Options include simple averaging, skin tone preservation modes, bias algorithms for double green or double blue scenarios, and limit spill color for precise control. Each algorithm includes controls for suppression strength, softness, expansion, and desaturation.
Color replacement. Instead of just removing spill, you can replace it with a custom color. Add warmth or coolness to despilled regions while preserving luminance. Adjust strength and intensity to match the surrounding footage.
Color protection. Protect specific colors using independent Luma, Hue, and Saturation ranges. Skin tones, wardrobe colors, and other critical elements stay untouched while the plugin removes spill from surrounding areas.
Alpha generation. Create mattes based on spill intensity. The alpha controls include softness, low and high threshold sliders (similar to levels), and an invert option. Use these mattes to isolate spill-affected regions for further correction.
The interface includes preview modes for spill maps, alpha channels, and protection masks, so you can see exactly what the plugin is isolating before finalizing the effect.
