What It Does

Copy Mattes automates the process of applying track mattes across multiple layers. Instead of manually setting up each track matte individually, you can copy a track matte from any layer and paste it to one or multiple target layers through a dockable panel. Works with both alpha and luma mattes on all layer types.

Note: This plugin has been discontinued and was designed before After Effects introduced its newer track matte system. It’s no longer available for purchase.

Key Features

Paste with Links. Check the option (or ALT+Click the Paste button) to paste track mattes with relative property links, maintaining connections between layers. Version 1.5 also copies the track matte’s parent layer.

Replace or Delete. Toggle whether pasted mattes replace existing ones (hiding the old matte) or delete them entirely, giving you control over cleanup.

Custom Naming. Add a prefix or suffix to pasted track mattes for better organization in complex compositions.

Trim to Layer. Automatically trim pasted track mattes to match the in and out points of the layer below, keeping your timeline clean.

Who It’s For

Useful for motion designers working with multiple layers that need identical or linked track mattes, particularly in projects with repeating graphic elements or text treatments. Saves time compared to duplicating and repositioning matte layers manually.
