What It Does

Cartoon Moblur generates motion trails on animated layers, similar to standard motion blur but with a stylized look. Instead of the subtle blur that comes with After Effects’ default motion blur, this plugin creates visible streaks that follow your graphics as they move across the frame.

The plugin samples the layer’s position over time and creates colored trails behind (or ahead of) the moving element. It’s particularly visible on sharp graphics like text, icons, and logo elements where traditional motion blur might be too subtle.

Key Features

Shutter angle controls the length of the trail. Higher values create longer streaks following your animation.

Color options let you fill the trail with a solid color or apply a gradient ramp. The gradient can help the trail fade from opaque to transparent, or transition between colors along its length.

Opacity samples determines render quality. More samples create smoother trails but take longer to render.

3D layer support (v1.5+) allows the effect to work with layers rotating and moving in 3D space, including Z-axis position and rotation.

Alternate motion source lets you apply the effect to an adjustment layer and have it affect all layers beneath it, useful for creating consistent trail effects across multiple elements.

Bezier path animation support means the trails follow curved motion paths, not just straight lines between keyframes.

Opacity start/end controls (v1.6) give you precise control over where the trail begins and ends its fade.

Fixed sample mode (v1.6) provides consistent results when changing the number of samples.

Who It’s For

Useful for motion graphics work where you want visible, stylized motion rather than realistic blur. Common in title animations, logo stings, and graphic transitions. If you’re animating icons, text, or geometric shapes and want to emphasize the movement, this creates that effect faster than manually keyframing Echo or building it with expressions.

Pricing

Single purchase at $29.95. Trial version available. Render-only and floating server licenses use the same pricing structure.
