What It Does
AI Depth of Field analyzes your footage and applies realistic bokeh blur based on scene depth. The plugin detects foreground and background elements automatically, letting you add cinematic depth of field that would normally require expensive camera equipment or complex compositing.
It works in both After Effects (2022-2025) and Premiere Pro (2025), with support for Windows and Mac (including Apple Silicon).
Key Features
AI-powered depth detection. The plugin scans your scene and creates a depth map without manual masking. You can blur the background, foreground, or both based on where objects sit in 3D space.
Five blur profiles. Choose from different bokeh styles to match the look you’re after. Adjust intensity, focus area, and bokeh shape to dial in the exact aesthetic.
GPU acceleration. Uses OpenCL for real-time previews on most modern graphics cards. There’s a workaround available for RTX 5000 users (check the documentation).
Who It’s For
Useful for fixing footage shot on phones or small-sensor cameras where everything stays in focus. Also handy for creating selective focus effects in interview footage, isolating subjects in product shots, or adding cinematic depth to flat-looking scenes.
Note: A known bug affects Premiere Pro 25.2+ on Mac. The developer recommends downgrading to version 25.1 while they work on a fix.
