What It Does
Voronoi Shatter generates fracture patterns on layers in After Effects. Create Voronoi diagrams, square grids, triangles, or line patterns, then output them as either layer masks or shape layers. Use it for shatter effects, organic transitions, or any project where you need to break a layer into controllable pieces.
Key Features
Voronoi patterns. Define how many pieces you want, and the plugin generates a Voronoi diagram across your layer. Alternatively, load an AV layer as a brightness map—pieces cluster where pixels are brighter, giving you control over density distribution.
Additional pattern types. Beyond Voronoi, generate square, triangle, horizontal line, or vertical line patterns. Adjust piece size and add randomness to vary the results.
Shape clipping. Load a layer’s masks to define the outer edges of all pieces. Useful for confining fractures to specific shapes like logos or custom boundaries.
Output options. Export pieces as layer masks applied directly to the source, or as separate shape layers for further manipulation.
Version 3 rebuilt the plugin as a native extension with instant previews and no Java dependency, making it faster and easier to use than earlier versions.
Who It’s For
Motion designers working on shatter effects, title reveals, or abstract transitions. Also useful for anyone needing to break layers into pieces without manually drawing masks.
Pricing
Voronoi Shatter uses a pay-what-you-want model. Set your own price when purchasing. Current listings show $29.99, but the original release allowed name-your-own-price contributions. Users who bought the earlier version within a year get upgrade credit equal to what they paid; after a year, they get a quarter of that amount. Trial version available.
