What It Does
Variations duplicates compositions and applies systematic changes to the copies. Select a comp, specify new dimensions, frame rate, duration, or naming scheme, and the plugin creates a modified version. It can also recursively duplicate and relink nested pre-comps, applying the same modifications throughout the composition hierarchy.
This is useful when adapting projects for different aspect ratios (square for Instagram, 16:9 for YouTube, vertical for Stories), frame rates (24fps to 30fps), or timings (30-second cut to 15-second cut). Instead of manually duplicating and reconfiguring, Variations handles the repetitive work.
Key Features
Composition duplication. Duplicate selected comps and modify name, folder location, frame rate, dimensions, and duration. You can apply brand new values or variations based on the original comp’s properties.
Pre-comp relinking. Automatically duplicate nested pre-comps and relink them in the new composition. The same modifications (dimensions, frame rate, etc.) apply to the entire comp tree, maintaining project structure.
Non-destructive modification option. Version 1.0.1 added the ability to modify existing comps instead of duplicating them. Useful when you want to update specs in place rather than create a new version.
Flexible naming controls. Name replacement uses a segmented control interface for quick access. You can turn the name and location sections on or off depending on whether you need to rename or reorganize the duplicates.
Who It’s For
Motion designers working on multi-format deliverables (adapting a campaign for different social platforms, creating language versions with different text layers) will find this useful. Anyone who regularly duplicates comps and manually adjusts settings can skip several steps.
Pricing
Variations uses a pay-what-you-want model. Individual users set their own price (suggested at $39.99). Businesses and teams must pay the suggested price for a valid license. This is a one-time purchase with no subscription.
