What It Does
Trajectory distributes selected layers evenly along a line between two null objects in 3D space. The script converts layers to 3D and positions them along a trajectory you define by moving the nulls. Instead of manually spacing layers or writing expressions, you get instant, evenly distributed placement with built-in controls for animation timing.
Key Features
Trajectory positioning. Place two nulls (startPosition and endPosition) anywhere in 3D space. Layers spread evenly along the line connecting them. Move the nulls, and the layers follow automatically. Keyframe the null positions for animated paths.
Transform delays. The controlLayer null manages rotation and opacity across all layers. Set the Transform Delay slider to offset how each layer responds. If you rotate the control layer from frame 1 to 10 with a delay of 5, layer 1 rotates frames 1-10, layer 2 frames 6-15, layer 3 frames 11-20. Creates cascading effects without manual keyframing.
Reverse delay. Check this to reverse the delay order, so the last layer starts first and the first layer starts last. Useful for reverse reveals or back-to-front animations.
Compress/Expand. Dynamically shorten or lengthen the trajectory line with a slider. Negative values compress the spacing, positive values stretch it beyond the null positions. Zero keeps layers exactly between the nulls.
Disable control. Turn off centralized control to animate each layer’s rotation and opacity independently. Switch between group control and individual tweaks without rebuilding the setup.
Add layers mid-project. Duplicate any existing layer in the trajectory comp, then alt-drag a new item onto it to add it to the trajectory. No need to rerun the script.
Who It’s For
Motion designers building title sequences, particle-like layer distributions, or cascading transform effects. Useful for text animations where letters need to follow a path with sequential timing, or for distributing 3D elements along camera moves. If you’ve ever manually positioned 20 layers in a line and then had to reposition them, this solves that.
