What It Does

ToothPaste imports SVG files directly from your clipboard into After Effects as shape layers. Copy an SVG from Figma, Affinity Designer, Sketch, or similar design apps, and paste it into After Effects without losing editable text, gradients, or masking information. The extension handles the conversion automatically, turning vector designs into native After Effects layers you can animate immediately.

Key Features

Editable text. Text layers remain editable after import instead of converting to outlines. You can change copy, adjust font settings, or restyle text without returning to your design app.

Gradient support. Import SVG files with gradient fills and strokes. The extension translates gradient data into After Effects gradient controls, giving you full access to color stops and blend modes.

Clip-paths and masks. Preserve masking structures from your original design. Shape masks and clip-path data transfer intact, maintaining complex layering and transparency effects.

Raster image embedding. The extension now handles embedded images within SVG files, converting them to layers alongside vector elements.

Improved layer structure. Recent updates organize imported layers to match your original design app’s hierarchy, making it easier to locate and work with specific elements.

Optional precomposing. Group elements from your SVG can be imported as precomps, keeping your main composition tidy.

Center in comp option. Automatically position imported SVGs in the center of your composition with a single checkbox.

The interface is a dockable panel with a paste button and configuration options. No complex menus or multi-step processes.

Who It’s For

Motion designers working across design and animation tools will find this useful. If you create layouts in Figma or Sketch and animate in After Effects, ToothPaste removes the manual conversion step. Instead of exporting static files or redrawing elements, you copy and paste directly.

The editable text feature is particularly valuable for projects with frequent copy changes or multilingual versions. You can update text in After Effects without re-importing the entire design.

Pricing

ToothPaste is available as a one-time purchase for $29.99. A trial version is available to test compatibility with your workflow before purchasing. The extension works with After Effects CC 2014 through 2026.
