What It Does

Time Offset Animation automates the setup of staggered animations across multiple layers. Instead of manually offsetting keyframes on dozens of duplicated layers, you animate one master layer, duplicate child layers without animation, and let the script apply the time offset automatically.

Key Features

One-click setup. Create an animation on a single layer, duplicate as many child layers as needed (no animation required), add an optional background layer, and run the script. The tool handles the time offset calculations and applies them instantly.

Expression-based workflow. The script uses expressions to create the offset effect, keeping your project flexible. Changes to the master animation propagate to all child layers without re-running the script.

Version tagging. Tag specific layers to different versions and switch between them with a single click, useful for managing variations within the same composition.

Educational bonus. Includes a scripting tutorial with source code for developers interested in how the tool works under the hood.

Who It’s For

Motion designers working on title sequences, kinetic typography, or any animation requiring staggered timing across multiple elements. Particularly useful for projects with repeating visual motifs where manual keyframe offsetting becomes tedious.

Pricing

This is a pay-what-you-want script with a suggested minimum of $4.99. Individual users set their own price; businesses and teams pay the suggested amount for a valid license.

Compatible with After Effects CC 2017 back to CS5. Developed by Calvin Swaim, inspired by a tutorial on time offset techniques.
