What It Does

Thicc Stroke creates variable-width strokes on masks and shapes in After Effects. It uses feather vertex tools to control stroke width at any point along a path, and includes gradient-along-path capabilities that weren’t available when Adobe added tapered strokes to After Effects in version 17.0.6.

Key Features

Infinite width control points. Uses After Effects’ feather vertex tool to add width control anywhere on your path. Each point can be adjusted independently.

Gradient-along-path. Apply 2, 3, or 4 color gradients that follow your stroke. Colors can loop, and a custom parameter supports more than 4 colors (added in collaboration with Rowbyte Software). This is the main distinction from Adobe’s built-in tapered stroke feature.

Full trim path controls. Standard trim path parameters work as expected, with optional influence over both width and color. You can animate a stroke drawing on while the width or gradient changes along with it.

Works on masks and shapes. Apply to any mask or shape layer. Cap styles include butt and round options.

Who It’s For

Useful for motion graphics work where stroke width variation matters: kinetic typography, logo animations, technical diagrams, or anything requiring strokes that taper, bulge, or vary width along their length. The gradient control makes it relevant for colorful or illustrative styles where you need more than a solid stroke color.
