What It Does
Templater Bot turns After Effects into an automated rendering system. Feed it data from Google Sheets, JSON files, or web APIs, and it produces custom videos without anyone touching the After Effects interface. Built for teams running high-volume video production where manual versioning isn’t practical.
Bot is the enterprise tier of the Templater product line. The base edition (Templater Rig) handles data-driven templating. Bot adds server automation, command-line control, and background processing for production pipelines that need to generate hundreds or thousands of variations.

Server automation. Bot runs as a background process, monitoring data sources for new entries and rendering videos automatically. No operator needed once the system is configured.
Command-line interface. Control rendering jobs via CLI for integration with existing pipelines. Push data in, trigger renders, run shell scripts at specific points in the process.
Data source flexibility. Connect to Google Sheets, JSON files, tab-separated values, or web APIs. Switch between After Effects projects mid-batch if needed, specified in the data itself.
Batch rendering with Media Encoder. Queue multiple outputs to Adobe Media Encoder. Custom output naming based on data fields. Process extremely large datasets without manual sorting.
Spot checking. Export still frames or short clips at specific points in your compositions (using timeline markers) to verify data merges before committing to full renders. Useful for quality control on high-volume jobs.
QUE integration. Templater works with Dataclay’s QUE platform, which offers a REST API for dynamic video generation, data-at-rest encryption, and pay-per-output billing (via QUE Meter at $0.20 per rendered output).
Scripting events. Run shell scripts during different stages of processing. Automate uploads, notifications, or post-render tasks based on completion events.
Version control. Automatically version After Effects projects as background tasks. Useful for agencies managing multiple client variations from a single master template.
