What It Does
Square Peg brings precise corner control to After Effects shape layers. Instead of applying uniform corner radius to all corners, you control each corner independently. The curvature slider transforms corners through six distinct styles: square, squircled, rounded, beveled, inverted, and notched. All controls are fully keyframable.
The plugin works as a shape builder. By manipulating individual corners inward and outward, you create custom shapes that would be tedious to draw by hand. Your shapes remain native After Effects Bézier paths, so projects stay shareable with collaborators who don’t have the plugin.
Key Features
Individual corner controls. Each corner animates independently. Useful for morphing between different shape states in title cards or logo reveals.
Curvature slider. Shifts corners through six styles without redrawing. Squircled corners (between sharp and round) work well for modern UI-style graphics. Inverted and notched corners add variety to shape animations.
Preset saving. Store frequently used shapes (speech bubbles, custom frames, icon bases) and rebuild them in one click. Presets can now include fill and stroke colors.
Anchor point shifting. Grows shapes from different points, helpful when scaling from a corner or edge instead of center.
Unlocked roundness. By default, After Effects limits corner radius to half the shorter side length. Square Peg lets you exceed this, creating unusual bulges and indentations.
Who It’s For
Motion designers building UI animations, kinetic typography, or branded graphics with repeated shape elements. Anyone tired of manually adjusting Bézier handles to match corner styles across multiple keyframes. Also useful for creating shape-based transitions where corners morph between states.
