What It Does
Springy FX generates secondary motion on keyframed layers. Select a layer with animated position, rotation, or scale, click a tool button, and the script creates a control layer with sliders for adjusting bounce intensity, elasticity, damping, and timing. The original layer gets expressions that react to its own movement or any other layer’s motion.
Key Features
The toolset includes 9 separate tools. Each applies a different style of springy effect:
Parent Constraint. Makes one layer follow another with a delayed, springy offset. Useful for trailing elements or chain reactions.
Bend Deformer. Bends the layer along the direction of motion. Works with solids, footage, and precomps.
Shear Deformer. Adds a sliding shear distortion based on position changes.
Squash & Stretch Deformer. Applies classic squash-and-stretch to moving layers. Mimics traditional animation principles.
Jiggle Deformer. Makes puppet pins jiggle when the layer moves. Similar to Rubberize It but uses a different algorithm with per-pin strength sliders and the ability to inherit motion from a different layer.
Bulge Deformer. Reacts to animated scale properties by adding bulge distortion.
Twist Deformer. Generates twist effects based on animated rotation.
Liquid Deformer. Simulates liquid movement reacting to both position and rotation. Can handle two layers (liquid and container) to create fill animations for bottles, glasses, or other vessels.
Custom Effect. Applies springy motion to any single numeric property inside an effect. Can be used with third-party plugins like Element 3D or Joystick ‘n Sliders. Limited to single-dimension properties (no position, color, or dropdowns).
Each tool creates a “Spring Constraint CTRL” layer with sliders for elasticity (0-10), damping (0-10), and time offset. You can stack multiple effects on the same layer, with all controls appearing on the same CTRL layer. The “Inherit Motion From” dropdown lets you base the springiness on any layer’s motion, not just the one receiving the effect.
Who It’s For
Motion designers creating cartoon-style or stylized animations. Character animators who need overlapping action without hand-keying every bounce. Anyone working on kinetic typography or logo reveals where secondary motion adds energy.
Pricing
Springy FX uses pay-what-you-want pricing with a suggested price of $39.99. You decide what it’s worth. Compatible with After Effects CS6 through 2026 (CS6 users need to run a separate pseudo-effects installer first).
