What It Does
Snapshot FX records effect configurations so you can return to any settings state with one click. Select any combination of effects, pseudo effects, or controllers, and the plugin captures all parameters and keyframes. Later, apply the entire snapshot or pick individual components to restore just what you need.
This becomes useful when you’re testing different looks on an effect-heavy layer. Instead of manually undoing changes or maintaining duplicate layers, record snapshots along the way and jump between them instantly.
Key Features
Selective application. Apply a full snapshot or choose specific effects to update. This lets you mix settings from different snapshots without overwriting everything.
Effect stacks as new layers. Apply snapshots to new layers instead of only updating existing ones. Useful when you want to duplicate a setup across multiple layers.
Snapshot management. Tag snapshots for organization, search by effect name, layer name, or comp name with Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT), and filter lists by the currently selected layer. A directory jump list tracks your ten most recent folders for quick navigation.
Auto-rename handling. Version 1.05 introduced a new method for linking effects to layers using markers. Renaming layers no longer breaks snapshot associations.
FX Manager. Generates a searchable list of every layer in your project that has effects applied. Navigate directly to any layer or toggle specific effects on and off, helpful when working with resource-heavy plugins.
Customizable display. Choose which components appear in snapshot names (tags, effects, timestamp, layer name, comp name) and define custom delimiters. You can also hide labels entirely to reduce visual clutter.
Sharing. Snapshots are stored as files on disk, so you can place them in a network directory for team collaboration. Since they use native After Effects components, any user with the same or newer version can load them.
Who It’s For
Motion designers who experiment with complex effect chains will find this plugin valuable. If you spend time adjusting nested effects or testing variations, recording snapshots means you can explore freely without losing your starting point. Also useful for teams that need to share standardized effect setups across multiple projects.
