What It Does

smartRecents tracks your recently opened Nuke scripts and displays them in a dedicated window. Instead of browsing through folders, you can open scripts directly from the interface, drag them into the node graph as groups, or reveal them in your file explorer. It’s a simple time-saver for navigating between multiple Nuke projects.

Key Features

Recent script tracking. smartRecents monitors which Nuke scripts you’ve opened and shows them in a table view. You can configure how many scripts to display (e.g., last 10, 20, or more).

Drag-and-drop workflow. Drag any script from the smartRecents window directly into your node graph. The script imports as a group node, letting you reference or integrate work from other files without opening them separately.

File reveal. Right-click any script to reveal it in your file explorer (Windows/Mac). Useful when you need to check the file location or manage project folders.

Thumbnail previews. The table view displays thumbnails, Nuke version, file size, and working status. You can auto-capture thumbnails or take manual screenshots for each script.

Open or append. Double-click to open a script or use the right-click menu to append it to your current session.

Search filter. A search bar at the top lets you filter scripts by name, helpful when tracking dozens of files across multiple projects.

Customizable display. Choose whether the smartRecents window appears automatically when you launch Nuke or only when called. You can also set it to always stay on top of other windows.

Version color coding. Scripts are color-coded based on whether they exist on disk, making it easy to spot missing or moved files.

Who It’s For

This is built for Nuke compositors working across multiple shots or projects. If you’re jumping between different scripts throughout the day (e.g., reviewing versions, pulling reference work, or managing client revisions), smartRecents cuts down the time spent navigating folders. It’s also useful for teams sharing a project structure where scripts are frequently accessed by different artists.

Pricing

smartRecents costs $9 for a single user node-locked license (one-time purchase). Site licenses and annual subscription options are available for studios using multiple cragl tools. There’s a free trial version available to test before buying. After purchase, licenses are delivered electronically within 24 hours.

Compatibility: Supports Nuke/NukeX versions 8.0 through 14.0. Works on Windows and macOS.
