What It Does
smartLook builds a look development and versioning system directly into Nuke. It centers around a snapshot browser that captures infinite versions of your work, each categorizable with flags and comments. Instead of duplicating nodes or scenes to test variations, you save node states as looks, adjust parameters, and flip between versions using a slider. The tool also handles toolset import/export for team sharing and includes a quick viewer resolution switcher.
Key Features
Snapshot Browser. Take unlimited snapshots of your work, categorize them, flag favorites, and add comments. Works as a collaboration layer where multiple artists can review and discuss look versions within the same comp.
Node Version Control. Save different parameter sets and animation states for any node. Switch between saved looks using a version slider. This replaces the traditional workflow of duplicating nodes to compare settings.
Toolset Sharing. Import and export node setups between artists through a dedicated window. Create unlimited custom toolset directories for organizing reusable node graphs.
Viewer Resolution Slider. Switch your viewer resolution faster than using Nuke’s built-in proxy controls. Helps during iterative look development when you need to toggle between full res and faster previews.
Customizable Settings. Define custom keyboard shortcuts and toggle hidden features through an advanced settings panel. Adapts to different studio pipeline requirements.
Who It’s For
Compositors working on projects with heavy look development, color grading iterations, or team-based shot reviews. Particularly useful when client feedback loops require comparing multiple look versions side by side. Also benefits pipeline TDs who need artists to share node setups consistently across shows.
