What It Does

After Effects won’t let you precompose text or shape layers using “leave all attributes in composition.” Smart Precomposer removes that restriction. It also gives you selective control over which properties move into the new precomp and which stay in the original comp, regardless of layer type.

Key Features

Text and shape layer precomposing. The script handles layer types that After Effects’ native precompose function rejects. You can now organize complex text animations or shape layer builds without losing your transform controls or effects in the parent comp.

Selective attribute transfer. Instead of the all-or-nothing approach of standard precomposing, you choose exactly which properties migrate to the new composition. Leave position and scale in the original comp while moving masks and effects into the precomp, or any other combination that suits your layer hierarchy.

Works with any layer type. While the text and shape layer support solves the most common frustration, the selective attribute system works across all layer types. This makes it useful for reorganizing footage, solids, or adjustment layers mid-project without breaking existing animation or effects.

Who It’s For

Useful for motion designers who build complex compositions with nested text animations or shape layer systems. Also helps when refactoring projects that have grown messy, since you can reorganize without redoing your work.
