What It Does

Slice it Up cuts vector artwork into any number of vertical slices using procedural clipping masks in Adobe Illustrator. Select a layer, set the number of slices, and the script duplicates the artwork, applies masks, and groups the results. Each slice can be offset, rotated, or expanded independently without permanently altering the original. The tool provides live preview, so you can see changes before committing.

Key Features

Live preview. Adjust settings and see results update in real time before applying.

Unlimited slices. No cap on the number of vertical pieces.

Random or linear distribution. Space slices evenly or scatter them with randomized X/Y offsets.

Equal or random widths. Keep slice widths uniform or vary them procedurally.

Mask angle and expansion. Rotate clipping masks or expand/contract them with positive or negative values.

Non-destructive workflow. All slices are grouped, and the original artwork remains intact. Run Pathfinder Merge or Trim afterward to finalize.

Who It’s For

Useful for designers creating glitch effects, fragmented layouts, or experimental typography in Illustrator. The random offset controls suit projects where controlled chaos is the goal, while linear distribution works for clean, technical slicing. Works in Illustrator CC 2019 through CS5.
