What It Does
Repeater creates grids and arrays from any layer type in After Effects. Apply it to text, solids, footage, or shapes, and the plugin duplicates them in any direction. Think of it as the shape layer repeater, but without the limitation to shape layers.
Unlike CC Reptile or Motion Tile, Repeater works cleanly with continuously rasterized layers and live text. You can animate the offset, spacing, and timing of repeated elements without precomposing or converting to shapes.
Key Features
2D arrays from live text. Build grids directly from text layers while preserving text animators, tracking, line spacing, and multiline formatting. No shape conversion required.
Directional offsets. Repeat copies in any direction. Offset rows or columns individually, or control the overall spread with an angle parameter. Optional mirror mode flips alternating copies.
Time stagger. Offset each repeated copy in time, with control over stagger order. Useful for cascading animations. Pairs well with Discotext for trim path effects on live text.
Layer compatibility. Works on any layer type: text, solids, footage, shapes, and 3D layers. Inherits parented transforms and works alongside other effects and plugins.
Modern After Effects support. 32-bit per channel precision, Multi-Frame Rendering, and Apple Silicon native.
Limitations
Repeater requires layers to be continuously rasterized for correct behavior. If working with footage, precomp it first to enable continuous rasterization. The plugin inherits motion blur from the original layer but doesn’t generate its own.
