What It Does

rd: Studio Techniques is a collection of seven After Effects scripts excerpted from Adobe After Effects CC Visual Effects and Compositing Studio Techniques by Mark Christiansen. The scripts, developed by Jeff Almasol, automate specific VFX and compositing tasks covered in the book.

Key Features

rd_CameraProjectionSetup.jsx. Sets up the initial camera projection technique by creating a backing plane. You’ll still need to add additional planes, masks, and positioning manually.

rd_Duplink.jsx. Creates linked instances of layer properties through pick-whipped expressions. When you update the main layer, instances update automatically. Only works with properties that support expressions.

rd_LightWrap.jsx. Builds the light wrap effect technique described in the book, adding Contamination and Wrap Offset controls to the precomp layer. Automatically synchronizes position, scale, and rotation between foreground and background layers.

rd_MergeProjects.jsx. Merges imported project folders into your root Project panel, combining same-named subfolders to keep organization clean.

rd_Slated.jsx. Renders slate images from a template composition, pulling data from a text file exported from a spreadsheet.

rd_TrimToZeroOpacityKeys.jsx. Trims layers to their first and last zero-value Opacity keyframes, cleaning up transparent sections.

rd_TrimZeroOpacity.jsx. An enhanced version that evaluates expression values and handles multiple adjacent zero-opacity frames. Processes more thoroughly but may take longer with many layers.

Who It’s For

Compositors and VFX artists working through camera projection techniques, light wrapping, or project organization tasks. Useful if you’re managing multiple layer instances or cleaning up transparency in complex comps.
