What It Does
rd: Slicer splits any selected After Effects layer into a grid of separate pieces. The script creates individual masks for each slice, giving you precise control over each section. Works best with non-rotated layers and automatically creates a parent null layer anchored at the original layer’s anchor point.
Key Features
Customizable grid. Set the number of rows and columns to divide your layer exactly as needed.
Adjustable margins. Increase the Margin value (in pixels) to shrink each slice’s mask, creating space between pieces.
Rounded corners. The Roundness value (percentage of half the shorter dimension) rounds the corners of each slice for softer edges.
Dockable panel. Place the script in the ScriptUI Panels subfolder to access it from the Window menu as a persistent panel.
Who It’s For
Useful for title animations where text or graphics need to split apart, reveal effects that show one section at a time, or any motion design work requiring precise layer division. Featured in the Cinematic Opening Title Redux tutorial on Aetuts+.
Pricing
Completely free as part of the rd: scripts collection. The developer encourages donations to a charity of your choice instead of payment. Compatible with After Effects CS5 and later.
