What It Does
Randsomator generates ransom note-style text inside After Effects. It pulls from every font installed on your system, randomizes styles and colors, and creates textured, cut-and-paste typography without leaving the application. The script builds each character as a separate, editable layer with expression-driven masks, giving you project-ready designs in seconds.
The tool requires either Photoshop, Illustrator, or the free AEVIEWER 2 extension to function.
Key Features
Random seed slider. One master control regenerates the entire design. Drag the slider to cycle through thousands of combinations using different fonts, colors, and rotations.
Per-character seeds. Each letter gets its own randomization slider. Lock the overall look while tweaking individual characters to refine the composition.
Typography controls. Adjust tracking (character spacing), apply random rotation, and scale characters independently. These combine with the randomization to create natural variation.
Texture simulation. The seed slider also drives procedural paper textures, simulating worn, uneven surfaces. Every iteration produces a unique backdrop.
Manual override. Disable randomization on any character to set color, scale, capitalization, font style (italic/bold), and rotation by hand. Mix automated and manual adjustments as needed.
Capitalization logic. Type a capital letter and it stays capitalized. Type lowercase and the script randomly chooses capitalization for that character.
Character size options. Set output size from 500 to 5000 pixels. Larger sizes increase render time but provide higher resolution for scaling.
The script uses expression-driven masks, so you can animate or fine-tune the output after generation.
Who It’s For
Title designers working on crime documentaries, thriller promos, or music videos will find immediate use. The look works for any project needing rough, handmade typography without manual cutting and pasting in Photoshop. Motion graphics artists who need to iterate quickly on stylized text can generate dozens of variations in minutes.
The tool assumes familiarity with After Effects layer management and expressions for editing the output.
Pricing
Randsomator uses pay-what-you-want pricing. You set your own price when purchasing. A trial version is available to test compatibility before buying. Some users may see upgrade pricing around $22 if they own related products from the same developer, but this requires logging in to check eligibility.
