What It Does
qp Version Snapshot creates timestamped backup copies of After Effects projects stored in a subfolder within your project folder. Instead of creating AE_Project_v001, AE_Project_v002, etc., you work with a single “live project” while the script maintains snapshots in the background. Think of snapshots as minor version checkpoints, with Increment and Save reserved for major milestones.

Key Features
Unlimited snapshots. Create as many backup copies as needed without ever-increasing version numbers in your main project file.
Categorization and notes. Tag snapshots as regular backups or milestones, and add descriptive notes to remember what changed.
Info Card comp. The script can generate an optional composition in your After Effects project displaying snapshot details for quick reference (CS4 and later).
Restore to live project. Load any snapshot back into your working file without adding entries to After Effects’ Recent File List.
Archive management. Archive or delete old snapshots directly from the UI. Archived snapshots can be restored manually through your file system if needed later.
Auto-save browser. Browse and restore After Effects auto-save files through the same interface.
Increment and Save button. Quick access to After Effects’ built-in increment and save function for major version updates.
Who It’s For
Useful for motion designers and editors who want version control without manually managing file names or cluttering project folders. The snapshot system works well for iterative design work where you want multiple restore points but don’t need full version control software.
Compatible with After Effects CS3 and later. Full feature set requires CS4 or newer for the Info Card functionality.
