What It Does

pt_Panorama takes panoramic images and converts them into 3D cylinders scaled at 10000% to simulate distant backgrounds in After Effects compositions. The plugin automates the setup process, generating a precomp with your panoramic image wrapped around a cylindrical geometry that works with 3D cameras.

Key Features

Panorama Angle sets the field of view to match your original panoramic capture. Number of Sides controls mesh density, higher values create smoother cylinders but increase render time. Values between 10-20 typically balance quality and performance.

Side Overlap prevents visible gaps when motion blur is active and the camera moves rapidly. The default setting works for standard interior views. Set to 10 when viewing the cylinder from outside, or experiment with higher values like 500 for intentional visual effects.

The plugin is GPU-accelerated and includes controls for accepting lights and shadows (disabled by default). A test panoramic image ships with the script for immediate experimentation.

Who It’s For

Motion designers working with virtual environments, particularly those creating camera moves through architectural spaces or 360-degree scenes. Useful when you need a seamless background that responds correctly to camera position and movement without requiring separate 3D software.
