What It Does
pt_ExpressEdit scans your entire After Effects project for expressions, then lets you edit them in bulk. Select any expression from the list, modify it in the built-in editor, and apply the change to one property or dozens at once. The plugin can also test expressions for errors and re-enable them automatically if issues are fixed.
Key Features
Project-wide expression search. Specify search criteria to find expressions across all compositions, layers, and properties. Results appear in a sortable list showing the property name, layer, composition, and expression content.
Bulk editing and application. Make changes in the text editor, then apply them to any selected properties from the list. You can also add expressions to properties that don’t have them yet, useful for batch-applying the same expression to multiple layers.
Expression presets. Save frequently used expressions as presets and recall them from a dropdown menu. Apply saved expressions to any selected properties with one click.
Auto Test mode. When enabled, the script validates expressions during searches. It identifies broken expressions and re-enables them if previous errors are resolved. If you make a change that breaks multiple expressions, undo it and run a new search to restore them.
Nested precomp search. Scan expressions inside nested compositions, not just the top level.
Sort options. Organize results by layer number, composition, property type, or other criteria to locate specific expressions faster.
Who It’s For
Useful for motion designers working on template-heavy projects where the same expression appears across dozens of layers, or anyone troubleshooting expression errors in a complex composition. Also practical for studios standardizing expression setups across multiple comps.
Pricing
This is a pay-what-you-want plugin. The developer suggests $39.99, but you can choose your own price. A trial version is available. Also sold as part of the Search and Edit Bundle with pt_EffectSearch.
