What It Does
Prota is an animated typeface designed for After Effects motion graphics. It’s a clean mono-linear design inspired by Scandinavian industrial aesthetics, built to work as both a standalone .aep file and a lightweight JSX format. The typeface includes uppercase, lowercase, numbers, extended Latin characters, and a wide range of symbols and currency marks.
The animations stay minimal to match the design’s simplicity, but the controller setup leaves room for creative combinations. Stack multiple versions with different colors or stroke widths, or adjust the in/out animation sliders to create custom reveal effects.
Key Features
Customizable animation controls. Separate sliders for in-animation and out-animation (0-100%) let you control the timing and behavior of each character’s appearance and exit. Color and stroke width are also fully adjustable through controller settings.
Extended character support. Includes the full Latin alphabet (upper and lower), extended diacritics (À, Ä, Ø, Ž, etc.), numerals, punctuation, and a solid set of symbols: parentheses, brackets, math operators, currency signs (including Bitcoin and Ethereum), and directional arrows.
JSX and .aep formats. The JSX version is optimized for use with Font Manager, a separate plugin that handles typing, tracking, line spacing, alignment, and time offset. The .aep file provides direct access to all animated characters in a traditional project format.
Workflow integration. Prota is prepped to work with Font Manager (which auto-generates a controller when you type) and Animography Controller (a free tool for dragging characters into comps and parenting settings). Both tools simplify setup for text-heavy projects.
Who It’s For
Motion designers building title sequences, kinetic typography pieces, or branding work where a consistent animated typeface saves time. It fits projects that need clean, geometric lettering with flexible animation control. Not ideal for complex character rigging or heavy text layout, just straightforward animated type.

Prota uses a pay-what-you-want model. There’s a 7-day free trial available for letters A, B, and C (requires Font Manager, which also offers a free trial). Note that this product has been discontinued, so availability may be limited.
