What It Did
Note: This plugin has been discontinued and is no longer available.
Project Cleaner tackled the clutter that builds up when you combine multiple After Effects projects into one. Nesting existing projects is useful for reusing compositions and animations, but it creates duplicate assets. The same footage or solid appears multiple times, bloating your project.
Key Features
The tool offered three main cleanup functions:
Reduce redundant solids and footages. Unlike After Effects’ built-in Consolidate All Footage (which only catches exact name matches), Project Cleaner identified truly duplicate items regardless of naming differences.
Remove unused solids and footages. Deleted assets that weren’t referenced by any composition.
Remove empty compositions and folders. Cleared out organizational structures left behind after cleanup operations.
These functions went beyond After Effects’ native cleanup tools by checking for redundancy based on actual characteristics, not just names. Particularly helpful after merging projects from different team members or recovering compositions from old work.
Pricing
Project Cleaner used a pay-what-you-want model before being discontinued. Historical pricing details are not available.
Compatibility
Supported After Effects CS3 through CC. The last update (version 1.2) fixed issues with layer type detection and source removal logic.
