Pre-compose Pro replaces After Effects’ native pre-compose workflow with an enhanced version that automates naming, cropping, and batch operations. Instead of manually naming pre-comps and adjusting durations, the plugin handles these tasks through customizable placeholders and intelligent content detection. Available in the layer menu (macOS) or via keyboard shortcuts, it integrates into existing workflows without disrupting muscle memory.

Key Features
Placeholder-based naming. Use five placeholders to build custom pre-comp names automatically. For example, composing layers in “Comp 1” with the pattern “prefix_[c]precomp[n]” generates “prefix_Comp 1_precomp_01”. The placeholders adapt to composition names, layer names, and sequential numbering.
Intelligent cropping. The plugin combines two cropping methods into one option. It detects whether layers contain keyframes and automatically picks either frame-specific cropping or full-animation cropping. No manual switching between modes.
Batch pre-composing. Pre-compose all selected layers separately with one action. Useful for converting multiple assets into individual pre-comps without repeating the process manually.
Label assignment. Set label colors for new pre-comps during creation. The plugin pulls color names from After Effects preferences, so it stays consistent with your workspace setup.
Keyboard shortcuts. On macOS, add Cmd+Shift+C from the settings window. On Windows, assign shortcuts through After Effects’ native keyboard panel. Both platforms support KBar integration for custom toolbar placement.
