What It Does
Pre-Compose Geek 2 automated the tedious work of organizing After Effects projects. Select your layers, choose a naming prefix, and the script created trimmed pre-comps sorted into folders. It handled overlapping layers, added editorial aids like digital cuts, and generated info layers showing shot names and durations.

Key Features
Automatic pre-composing and trimming. The script created pre-comps from selected layers and trimmed them to match shot boundaries. No manual in/out point setting.
Batch naming with prefixes. Every pre-comp got named using your chosen prefix, keeping timelines readable when working with dozens or hundreds of shots.
Folder organization. Each pre-comp went into its own folder inside a master comp folder. Overlapping layers grouped into single pre-comps rather than creating duplicates.
Leave all attributes option. When pre-composing, you could preserve layer position and effects on the parent comp.
Digital cut placement. Added a reference cut above your composition for comparing edits, useful when conforming footage from Premiere or other NLEs.
Info layers. Generated layers displaying shot name, frame count, and duration directly in each pre-comp.
Handles. Added buffer frames to pre-comps for easier retiming or transitions.
Who It’s For
This was built for editors and compositors conforming footage from other applications, particularly RED workflows and Premiere to After Effects handoffs. Studios like Bonfire Labs and Airbag Productions used it to avoid manually pre-composing thousands of layers on feature film projects.
The time savings scaled with project complexity. Simple projects with few shots saved 5-15 minutes. Complex timelines with long clips and many cuts could save 1-2 hours of repetitive work.
Pricing
Pre-Compose Geek 2 was sold as pay-what-you-want. Users who owned version 1 received the upgrade free when logging into the same account.
The product has been discontinued and cannot be purchased. The last compatible version supported After Effects CC 2015 through CS5.
