What It Does

NumberLink automates the tedious process of rigging number animations in After Effects. Select a text layer containing numbers, run the script, and it automatically replaces each number set with a slider control. When you animate the slider, the text updates to show the current value. This works for single numbers or multiple number sets within the same text layer.

The result is instant counting animations without manual expression writing or layer rigging.

Key Features

One-click setup. The “Run Selected Layers” button processes existing text layers. The “Create New Text Layer” button lets you type custom text and generates a new layer with sliders already linked.

Automatic number detection. NumberLink identifies every digit set in your text layer and creates separate controls for each. The original text structure stays intact, you just get new slider controls.

Per-number formatting. Each number set gets its own controls for commas and decimal places. Set one counter to show whole numbers while another displays currency with two decimal places.

Animate In mode. When enabled, NumberLink sets two keyframes: one at 0 and one at the original value. This gives you a ready-made counting animation from zero to your target number, which you can then adjust to taste.

Color animation sync. The “Add Color Animator” option creates color controls alongside the number sliders. When combined with Animate In, both color and number keyframes align, letting numbers change color as they count up. Useful for highlighting specific values or matching numbers to your design system.

Stroke controls. Version 1.2 added stroke color and width controls for additional styling options.

Layer inheritance. When creating new text layers with existing layers selected, NumberLink matches the duration and position of the selected layer. The new layer appears directly above it in the stack.

Who It’s For

Useful for motion designers creating title sequences, data visualizations, scoreboards, countdowns, or any project with animated numbers. Works well for explainer videos where you need to show statistics counting up, financial graphics, or sports graphics.

If you regularly animate numbers in After Effects and find yourself writing the same expressions repeatedly, this script eliminates that step.
